Optimization of pulsed fluoroscopy in pediatric radiology using voiding cystourethrography as an example

چکیده

In the 11 “Report on Carcinogens” of the United States National Toxicology Program [1], X-irradiation and ionizing irradiation were placed on the list of known human carcinogens. This fact caused at least some confusion in the United States and led to a statement by the Radiologic Society of North America. This discussion was set in motion by a report by Pierce and Preston in 2000 on “Radiation-related Cancer Risks at Low Doses among Atomic Bomb Survivors” [2], as well as by this finding being featured in the national press [3].

Corrigendum to: Comparison Between Photofluorography and Standard Fluoroscopic Voiding Cystourethrography in Evaluating Vesicoureteral Reflux in Children With Urinary Tract Infection [Nephro Urol Mon.2012;4(3): 541-544. DOI: 10.5812/numonthly.3562]

The following sentence should be added to the end of the result in the abstract: " The results of this study are evident that VCUG with photofluorographic hardcopy provides high diagnostic value with very low radiation dose to patients (patient dose reduced by 5-9 folds). " In the abstract in line 3 of conclusions " 50-90% " should be changed to " 80-89% " : " our study suggests that the high v...

2D/3D/4D contrast-enhanced voiding urosonography in the diagnosis and monitoring of treatment of vesicoureteral reflux in children – can it replace voiding cystourethrography?

INTRODUCTION Vesicoureteral reflux appears in 20-50% of pediatric patients with recurrent urinary tract infections. The most common method of diagnosing this disease is voiding cystourethrography. However, contemporary pediatric radiology does not favor this method due to exposure to X-radiation. AIM The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of 2D/3D/4D contrast-enhanced voiding uros...

Randomized clinical trial of sedation with oral midazolam for voiding cystourethrography in Children

Abstract   Background: Voiding Cystourethrography (VCUG) is a distressing procedure   for children. Conscious sedation with any drug that its dose would not influences the   procedure is preferred. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of conscious sedation using oral midazolam in children undergoing VCUG.   Methods: From November 2008 to October 2009 period, 93 Patients (68 g...

Two-dimensional (2D), three-dimensional static (3D) and real-time (4D) contrast enhanced voiding urosonography (ceVUS) versus voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) in children with vesicoureteral reflux.

BACKGROUND Two-dimensional (2DUS) contrast enhanced voiding urosonography has been used in the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of the vesicoureteral reflux in children for over 15 years. The opportunity of performing this examination with the use of three-dimensional static (3DUS) and real-time (4DUS) techniques opens up new diagnostic horizons. OBJECTIVE To analyze if 3DUS/4DUS bring addi...

Pediatric vesicoureteral reflux approach and management

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), the retrograde flow of urine from the bladder toward the kidney, is congenital and often familial. VUR is common in childhood, but its precise prevalence is uncertain. It is about 10–20% in children with antenatal hydronephrosis, 30% in siblings of patient with VUR and 30–40% in children with a proved urinary tract infection (UTI). Ultrasonography is a u...
